Event Horizon Hobbies Celebrates World Pokémon Day 2025!

On February 27th and March 1st, Event Horizon Hobbies brought the community together for two incredible Pokémon-themed events in celebration of World Pokémon Day! With over 50 participants across both days, we saw new and experienced trainers alike coming together to enjoy the world of Pokémon through painting, gameplay, and friendly competition.

What is World Pokémon Day?

World Pokémon Day is celebrated every year on February 27th to mark the anniversary of the original Pokémon games—Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green—released in Japan in 1996 (Pokémon Red and Blue released in north America in 1998). Since then, the franchise has grown into a global phenomenon, with over 1,000 unique Pokémon species, millions of devoted trainers, and countless video games, trading cards, movies, and TV series enjoyed worldwide. This annual celebration is a time for fans to come together and share their love of all things Pokémon!

Event Highlights

3D Poké Ball Painting – A Sold-Out Success!

Our 3D Poké Ball painting session on March 1st was a massive hit! Every single spot was filled, and we got to see some of the most creative and unique Poké Balls ever designed. From classic red-and-white styles to vibrant custom creations, the artistic talent on display was truly inspiring. This hands-on experience brought trainers of all ages together to craft their very own collectible piece of Pokémon history.

Learn-to-Play Pokémon TCG – New Trainers Join the Fun!

Both days featured our popular Learn-to-Play Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sessions, where newcomers got a chance to pick up a deck and dive into the game. Many players decorated their own deck boxes and had a blast at our coloring/activity station while learning the basics of battle. Seeing so many fresh faces discovering the excitement of Pokémon TCG was one of the best parts of the event!

Raid Boss Battle – Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

One of the most exciting parts of our World Pokémon Day event was the Raid Boss Battle, where groups of four trainers teamed up to take on a powerful opponent using their Pokémon cards. This collaborative format added a unique twist to traditional gameplay, requiring strategy and teamwork to emerge victorious. The kids absolutely loved it, and we can’t wait to bring it back for future events!

Giovanni’s Retribution Tournament – A Competitive Showdown

On March 1st, we hosted the Giovanni’s Retribution Tournament, a single-elimination showdown in the standard-legal format. With a $15 entry fee, trainers battled for promo cards, packs, and EHH player points, with the top 3 Senior and Top 3 Junior competitors walking away with prizes and Everyone walking away with Limited edition Promos only available for this day! The atmosphere was electric as skilled players showcased their strategies in a thrilling competition. Congratulations to our winners and everyone who participated!

A Huge Thank You to Our Community!

These events wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing local Pokémon community. We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended, whether you painted a Poké Ball, learned how to play, or competed in the tournament. Your passion and enthusiasm for Pokémon make Event Horizon Hobbies the perfect place for trainers of all ages to gather, play, and celebrate their love for the game.
